Morrison & Foerster is a committed participant in the social enterprise and impact investing space – a position we have championed for more than 20 years. Our team across our corporate, finance, tax, patent, and licensing practices is passionate about solving the world’s biggest problems through creative business models and mission-focused investments. We have long recognized that impact investing and social entrepreneurship have unique legal challenges, as investors, companies, and organizations determine how to embed social and environmental missions into governing documents, investments, and business strategies.

TrustLaw, a program of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, is the world’s largest global pro bono legal network, with over 6000 member organizations and having connected over 7,000 pro bono legal projects across 180 countries. Our impact practice has consisted primarily of facilitating direct legal support for social enterprises and impact investors on a range of legal issues, as well as ecosystem-building through the production of a suite of guides, resources and interactive tools that are designed to advance social entrepreneurship.

We are the first US and international law practice to build our firm around social impact investing, especially in cross-border and growth market transactions. Thanks to our early presence in the impact investment space, we have worked with our clients to shape the key business terms and structures being used in the sector.
